Be the candidate that stands out in a interview:

1) Know the company that you are interviewing with

It’s important to spend time researching the company that you are interviewing with prior to the interview. Researching a company before your interview is a great way to learn about what the company does and what they are looking for in a potential hire. Go into the interview with an understanding of the company’s mission statement as well as any key players in the organization.

2) Show your authentic self –

If during the interview process you are asked the question “tell me about yourself” it is important to talking about aspects of the job that you will enjoy.  Answering this question this way will naturally bring out your enthusiasm for the position and will generate positive body language.

3) Follow up the interview with a thank you card

It is always a good idea to follow an interview with some type of acknowledgement. The best way to go about this is to make a three part thank you note.

1) Do not say thank you for your time because your time is equally as important. Say something like - “I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation…”

2) Present the other person with a sincere compliment gleaned from the conversation – “I am very impressed with your knowledge and passion of and for....”

3) Close with – “I feel that my experience and history of accomplishment would compliment your team and its efforts. I look forward to the next steps.”

Now of course you have to create the words based on your experience, but this is a guideline that seems to be an effective way to communicate after an interview.

Summary:

1) I enjoyed the conversation

2) Compliment the person

3) Express your interest based on your skill set (why they should hire you)
